Elmer Zeif, 95, of Fairfield died on Jan. 30.
Born in Szamosborhid, Satumare, Romania, he was the son of Emma Rottenstein and Eugene Zeif. After surviving the Holocaust, he immigrated to New York with his wife, Gizella. He worked many odd jobs until he became a cutter in the ladies' garment district.
Survivors include his children, Susan and Israel Unrad of Monroe; his grandchildren, Keren Unrad of New York, Tal Unrad of Massachusetts, Lori and Matt Herman, Wendy and Chris Keenan and Eric Finkelstein of New Jersey; his sister, Aurelia Isaac; his great-grandchildren, Cody and Joshua Herman and Hailey Finkelstein; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Olga Soloway.
Shiva will be observed Wednesday, Feb. 2, to Friday, Feb. 4; Sunday, Feb. 6, and Monday, Feb. 7, at the Unrad residence. Services took place Tuesday at the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road. Burial was in Rodeph Sholom Cemetery, Fairfield.
