Emanuel "Manny" Francis Ondeck Jr., 79, of Bridgeport and former teacher at Fairfield College Preparatory School, died Feb. 24 in Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport.

He was the husband of Carol J. Listopad Ondeck and son of the late Emanuel Sr. and Eleanor Ondeck. After graduating from Fairfield College Preparatory School, he earned a bachelor of science degree from Fairfield University.

After returning from his service in the U.S. Army Radio Signal Corps in Saran, France, he received a master's of arts degree from Fordham University and started his 43-year teaching career at Fairfield Prep, teaching ancient Greek, Latin, English and German at different periods over that time. He also earned his sixth-year degree in education from Fairfield University, was appointed an assistant principal for a period, and was inducted into the Fairfield Prep Hall of Fame. He also headed the Audio Visual Department at the school, as well as the library and bookstore. He also had worked many years as a radio engineer for former radio station WNAB in Bridgeport. He was a member of the Classical Association of New England, a group that promotes the study of Classical Greek and Roman writings and civilizations in high school and college.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 50 years, include a son, Joseph "CJ" Ondeck of Bridgeport; two daughters, Jeanne Ondeck and Marcia Ondeck, both of Hamden; a granddaughter Marjorie Ondeck of Monroe, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Rockwell.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, and at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Calling hours are Sunday, from 1 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home.
