An opening reception is planned Jan. 30 for the “Emerging Artists” exhibit at the Kershner Gallery of the Fairfield Public Library.

The reception for the new exhibit, showcasing work by painter Karl Soderlund and eight of his students, is set from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the main library, corner of Old Post and Post Roads. The exhibit will be on view in the gallery from Saturday to March 6.

Soderlund is known his portraits, seascapes and landscapes, according to library publicity for the exhibit, and his work is in more than 250 public and private collections.

His students whose work will be included in the exhibit include: Robin Berman, Pascale Butcher, Paul Christian and Marina Golos.

Also, Carol Mackno, Carole Southall, June Topar and Ghislaine Bransby-Zachary.
