Ex-Fairfield U. employee charged after fracas with girlfriend on campus
Carlos Maldonado, 28, of Black Rock Avenue in Bridgeport, was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace.
Maldonado arrived at the campus, where his girlfriend still works, upset that she had taken his cell phone, according to the report. She told police she took it by accident, but learned, via the phone's messages, that he was allegedly cheating on her and making fun of her disabled son.
The two began to argue and the girlfriend dropped her cell phone, and Maldonado picked it up and ran down the hall. She said when she grabbed him by the collar and tried to retrieve her phone, he "accidentally" swung his arm, striking her in the face, according to the report.
Police said the woman had a bloody nose and a scratch on her face. Campus security personnel said Maldonado was let go by Fairfield University in June 2011 and told to stay off campus.
Maldonado was not at the scene when officers arrived, but came to police headquarters after being contacted.
He was released on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared Tuesday at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
