Twenty-three people were officially added to the ranks of Fairfield's Community Emergency Response Team on with the conclusion of the 2011 CERT Basic Training Class at the Fairfield Regional Fire School. That followed 10 weeks of Saturday classes and on topics that included disaster medical services including triage and basic first aid, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, fire safety, incident command system, terrorism, and personal disaster preparedness.

A workshop on shelters was presented by the American Red Cross, and on pet sheltering presented by Fairfield Animal Control Officer Vinnie Pennatto and veterinarian Sheldon Yessenow.
