A reception for veterans will be held on Monday, Nov. 11 after the ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on the Town Green. The reception is hosted by the Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution at the Old Fairfield Academy, 635 Old Post Road, adjacent to the Town Green. The town's ceremony honoring veterans will begin at 11 a.m.

According to the DAR, Veteran's Day originated in 1918 as Armistice Day, first proclaimed by Congress in 1926. The commemoration was changed in 1956 to Veteran's Day to honor all veterans who have served the nation.

The DAR is a volunteer women's service organization that promotes patriotism, education, and historic preservation.
