Fairfield Dems to honor pair at brunch
The event is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m.
The committee will present its Denise Dougiello Young Turk Award to Jay Wolk, a newly elected to Representative Town Meeting member from District 6. The award is given annually to "a newer member of the Democratic Party who has contributed in an exceptional way to moving it to the future," the DTC said in a news release.
Democrats will give their Eunice Postol Community Service Award to Shelley Cryan, a longtime volunteer in PTA and youth activities. The award is given annually to "a Democrat who over the past years has exemplified undying dedication to community service," the DTC said.
Wolk is president of the Dogwood Green Association and the Fairfield PTA's liaison to the first selectman's office, responsible for communicating the first selectman's agenda to the PTA leaders and the local PTA units.
"Many a Democratic candidate has benefitted from Jay's hard work: He is a tireless worker, who is always ready to help in any way," The DTC said in the release.
Cryan has worked with various PTA projects, coached girls' softball for Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department and coached the Odyssey of the Mind program. She also led a group of Fairfield middle school students to Africa to help repair a school there.
Cryan is currently vice president of Humanity Now, a non-profit organization founded by Fairfield teachers to connect children around the world for learning, cultural exchange, fundraising for humanitarian efforts.
"Shelley has an extraordinary record of community service, not only to Fairfield, but to others in need around the world," the DTC said.
