A wave of new construction — castles and other fantastical structures — will rise on the local shoreline July 25.
The occasion is the annual Sand Sculpture Contest sponsored by the Fairfield Police Athletic League, set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Penfield Beach. Rain date is July 26.
There is no charge for the PAL event, but registration is required. Registration forms will be available at the beach, and sign-ups will be accepted starting at 10:30 a.m.
Entrants may register as an individual or with a team; individual competitors must be 18 years old or younger, and teams must include at least one member 18 or under.
Only objects found in nature may be included in the sculptures. Participants should bring any tools that they plan to use to fashion their entry.
Prizes will be awarded in these categories: Best Castle, Most Original Sculpture, Most Realistic Sculpture and Most Artistic Creation.
