Fairfield Police investigate possible stolen car
FAIRFIELD — Police are investigating a report of a car stolen from a Southport business.
A Massachusetts resident called to report the theft Tuesday. She said she was having car trouble and got permission from the owner of Southport Automotive, 3430 Post Road, to leave the car there to await a tow truck. She said she left the keys in the car for the tow truck, rented a car and started on her way back to Massachusetts.
Around 9 p.m. she called police because she had heard from the towing company that her car was not there. Police checked the business but the car could not be located. A check with Massachusetts indicated the plate for the car had been canceled, police said. When officers tried to call the woman back, they got no answer.
