The Fairfield Senior Center and New England Young at Heart will host a Day of Wellness on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring Dr. Bernie Siegel. Siegel is the author of 12 books, including his most recent, "Book of Miracles -- Inspiring True Stories of Healing, Gratitude, and Love." Siegel will give a talk, "Grow Young with Me," at 12:15 p.m. There will also be over 50 organizations offering health screenings and workshops during the Wellness Day event.

Siegel retired from Yale University as an assistant clinical professor of general and pediatric surgery in 1989 to counsel patients "to live fully and die in peace," and he works to support changes in medical education to "humanize" medical practice. He attended Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College and trained to become a surgeon at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Seats for Siegel's talk at the Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace, are limited to the first 200 people who register in advance for free tickets. To register or for more information, call 203-256-3166.

The Wellness Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and admission is free. It is geared to seniors and their caregivers. Organizations interested in having a table at the event should contact Elaine Marcuccio at 203-887-5047.
