The Fairfield Senior Center has begun collecting canned and packaged food for various food pantries in town. The Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace, is asking the community for help to make the upcoming holidays easier for neighbors in need.

More than 2,000 Fairfield residents live at or below the poverty line, according to Terry Giegengack, director of Social Services for the town. The food pantries are vitally important in helping local families cope with difficult times.

Food will be collected in boxes in the Senior Center's front lobby. Center hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
