Fairfield Sidewalk Sales: Bargains, entertainment, even an 'app'
The annual Sidewalk Sales in the Post Road's shopping district will take place Saturday.
The promotional sales, co-sponsored this year by the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A number of stores plan to offer a preview of their sales merchandise a day earlier.
More than 50 downtown businesses are expected to participate, setting up outside racks and stands for goods on sale, from the Heritage Square shopping center to the Brick Walk complex.
In addition to the sales, Sherman Green will host activities for children and families, including a climbing tower, a slap shot hockey contest and dunk tank sponsored by Letarte Swimwear and the Fairfield Ludlowe High girls swim team.
Other attractions planned as part of the sales event are a visit by BB, the Bluefish baseball team mascot, and McGruff, the Crime Dog, and face painting.
There also will be musical performances at several downtown sites, including from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brick Walk, Sherman Green, in front of the former Community Theater, near the Fairfield University Bookstore and on Donnelly's Walk between Sanford Street and Unquowa Road.
"This year promises to be better than ever, with live musical entertainment at various venues within the downtown, special menu offerings at our many fine participating restaurants and activities for children and families," First Selectman Michael Tetreau said in a news release issued by the event planners. "I encourage people of all ages to come to our downtown and experience our array of quality businesses."
BizzBuzzTV, one of the Sidewalk Sales sponsors, will offer a smartphone app that shoppers can download for free that will allow them to watch short videos from participating businesses highlighting their sales merchandise.
