Fairfield University's board of trustees recently announced the appointments of a new chairman and new vice chairman as well as six members to the board.

William L. Atwell, of Darien, has assumed the position of board chairman, while Frank J. Carroll III, of Greenwich, has been appointed vice chairman of the board, according to a release.

Atwell is managing director of Atwell Partners LLC, and has served on the board since 2006.

Carroll, a member of the school's Class of 1989, is managing director of Oaktree Capital Management LP and has also served on the board since 2006.

The board members include Nancy A. Altobello; William A. McIntosh; Gavin O'Connor; Kelly Simon; Marianne Dolan Weber; and James D. Wehr.

Each new member will serve a six-year term.

Altobello, a 1980 graduate living in Greenwich, is Americas vice chairwoman of people at Ernst & Young. Prior to this role, Altobello, a returning board member, held many positions in the firm, most recently as managing partner of assurance and advisory business services.

McIntosh, of Kenilworth, Ill., retired from Salomon Brothers and Salomon Smith Barney after serving as managing director and a member of the company's executive committee. A returning board member, he is the parent of members of the Class of 1986 and the Class of 1992 and a grandparent of members of the Class of 2012 and Class of 2014.

O'Connor, a 1988 graduate residing in Washington Township, N.J., is chief operating officer of the investment management division at Goldman Sachs, the release states. He has served on the school's Dolan School of Business Advisory Board, and in 2011, he served as co-chairman of the annual Fairfield Awards Dinner.

Simon, a 2001 graduate living in Chicago, Ill., has been involved with her family's business, KJ Investment, and a director of her family's foundation, SF Foundation, since 2007. She has served on her class's Reunion Giving Committee and supported alumni and campaign receptions.

Weber, the parent of member of the Class of 2016 and resident of Long Island, N.Y., is manager of Knickerbocker Group and a director of the Dolan Family Foundations. She also serves on the board of directors for three publicly-traded firms.

Wehr, a 1979 graduate living in South Windsor, is president, chief executive officer and director of The Phoenix Companies, a boutique life insurance and annuity company he has been with since 1981. In addition to his professional career, he has served on multiple civic boards.
