Fairfield Warde High School and Fuel for Learning Partnership will hold a Food Day Iron Chef competition from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the school, 755 Melville Ave.

The event, being held to acknowledge Center for Science in the Public Interest's Food Day, will feature three local chefs who will be given a list of ingredients from which to make a school lunch entree that follows the federal nutrition standard. The chefs will include Wayne Uccellini, cafeteria manager at Osborn Hill School; Michelle Ryan, Whole Foods Market chef, and Shawn Russell, chef of Cinch and Sherman School.

Students from the district are invited to stop by the cafeteria any time from 4 to 7 p.m. to sample the dishes and cast a vote for their favorite. The winning recipe will be featured on December's lunch menu.

The school's lunch menu on that day will support Food Day by featuring school-made vegetarian chili, whole-grain brown rice, fresh tossed salad, and locally grown apples.
