Fairfield burglary investigation leads to arrest

FAIRFIELD — An investigation into an attempted burglary on Old Oaks Road early on Oct. 3 led to the arrest of a North Haven man.

Shawn R. Hammond, 20, was not charged with the Old Oaks Road break-in but served with a warrant for prior burglaries in town. Hammond was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief.

Police responded to an alarm at the Old Oaks Road home around 5 a.m. and found two broken windows. They set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and stopped a young man found walking near North Avenue in Bridgeport, later identified as Hammond. Police at this time found no connection between Hammond and the attempted break-in but served him with the outstanding warrant.

Hammond was held on a $1,000 bond.

The investigation into the Old Oaks Road incident is continuing.
