The Fairfield Fire and Police departments will honor all those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks at a ceremony set for 9 a.m. Thursday at fire headquarters, 140 Reef Road.
A centerpiece of the annual ceremony, which includes remarks from the police and fire chiefs and elected officials, is a piece of structural steel from the World Trade Center, which collapsed after the attacks. The beam, which has been incorporated into a memorial in front of the Reef Road fire station, was acquired in 2011.
The ceremony is open to the public; refreshments will be available.
