Fairfield forecast: Cooler today, heat wave later

This morning marks a cloudy start to a week that the National Weather Service predicts will later bring the hottest temperatures of the year to southwestern Connecticut.
Today, however, cloudy skies will prevail till midday, then gradually clear as temperatures rise to about 70 degrees. There will be a southeast wind between 5 and 9 mph.
Tonight also will be mostly cloudy as the temperature dips to a low of about 60 degrees, with a south wind between 5 and 9 mph.
Tomorrow also will be cloudy in the morning, then gradually becoming mostly sunny with a temperature rising to a high in the mid-70s. Nighttime will be mostly cloudy, with the temperature dipping to the mid-60s.
On Wednesday, a heat wave takes hold as the temperature is expected to rise to about 90 degrees under sunny skies, the NWS predicts. Temperatures will drop to a low of about 70 degrees overnight.
The outlook for Thursday, the weather service says, is for sunny skies and temperatures in the low-90s.
