Open houses and special children’s programs are booked at the Fairfield Public Library branches Saturday to acquaint the public with features and services, old and new.

The open houses will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Fairfield Public Library main branch, corner of Old Post and Post roads, and the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.

Visitors will get to check out the libraries’ new digital resources, the new catalog and Maker activities. Light refreshments also will be available, courtesy of the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library.

And since the day is also designated “National Take Your Child to the Library Day,” children’s services at both libraries will be highlighted throughout the day.

At the main library, a Side-by-Side story time for children is planned at 10:30 a.m., followed by a presentation by the Fairfield Audubon Society featuring a live owl. There also will be a scavenger hunt in the Children's Room from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a demonstration of what library officials call “new and exciting gadgets” from 10 a.m. to noon; a Minecraft meetup from 2 to 3 p.m., and a crafts table all day.

At the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, a family story time will take place at 11 a.m.; a scavenger hunt in the Children's Room is set from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; new “gadgets” will be demonstrated from 10 a.m. to noon, and crafts will be offered in the Children’s Room all day.

Those with library cards can take a chance to win a prize.
