Fairfield man charged with possessing large cache of child porn
A Fairfield man faces child pornography charges after State Police said Wednesday they found more than 500 images of child porn on his home computer, including a video depicting an 8-year-old girl in a sexual situation with a male adult.
State Police said that following his arrest, John Spence, 40, of May Street, confessed to viewing and downloading child porn for the past three or four years.
"I'm not looking for any particular age when I download child pornography, I just get whatever I can get," police said Spence told them. They said he also admitted viewing pornography involving a 2-year-old.
Spence was charged with obscenity, promoting a minor in an obscene performance and first-degree illegal possession of child pornography. He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon at Bridgeport Superior Court.
Judge Howard Owens ordered Spence held in lieu of $100,000 bond and continued the case for two weeks.
State Police said the charges stem from an investigation into trafficking child porn, and that during that probe, they intercepted the download of 40 video files of suspected child porn. They said the downloads were traced to Spence.
State troopers and Fairfield police officers executed a search warrant at Spence's home Wednesday and seized his home computer. They said they located a computer folder with more than 500 video files of child pornography. Police said many of the files depicted children, both boys and girls less than 16 years old, engaged in explicit sexual conduct.
