Fairfield police: Bridgeport man drove drunk, hit tree

FAIRFIELD — A Bridgeport man, who police said was driving drunk, hit a crosswalk beacon and a tree on the Post Road around 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
According to the report, Geovanny M. Tapia-Zuniga, 31, was driving west on the Post Road, when he drove off the road and mounted the curb near the Sherman Green, striking the crosswalk beacon in front of the bus stop.
He then continued on, striking a tree in front of Centro’s, where he finally stopped. Police said there was an odor of alcohol on his breath and he failed field sobriety tests.
Tapia-Zuniga, of Elizabeth Street, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. He is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on Jan. 23.
