A 64-year-old Norwalk man with dementia, reported missing from his home Tuesday afternoon, was found in Fairfield several hours later.
The man, who also has diabetes, walked away from his home shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday wearing only shorts, a tee-shirt and sandals, his family told police. He had wandered from home on a previous occasion.
Norwalk police officers, assisted by K-9s, searched the immediate area without success. Later unsuccessful searches for the man were made by Westport and State Police K-9 teams.
To broaden the search, Norwalk issued a Code Red alert asking city residents to provide any information they might have about the missing man, and the state issued a Silver Alert to area police.
The man was found by Fairfield police on Congress Street in that town just before 7 p.m. He was reportedly safe, but cold. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.
