FAIRFIELD — A “Pride in Our Homes Contest” for spring is being sponsored by the Greater Fairfield Board of Realtors.

The contest has three categories that feature homes and landscaping focused on ecological improvements and sustainability. The areas are: Green Landscaping, Budget Friendly Green and Green from the Ground Up. The contest is led by Kaitlyn Walsh of Denise Walsh and Partners, William Raveis; Kelly Higgins of Coldwell Banker, Fairfield, and Justin Eagan of Residential Mortgage Services in Fairfield, according to Stephanie Barnes, the realty board’s president.

Green Landscaping will explore properties utilizing irrigation and composting techniques along with the choice of plantings that are indigenous and are drought resistant, according to contest planners. Budget Friendly Green is for cost-conscious homeowners interested in how to make their carbon footprint more sustainable, and Green from the Ground Up will explore sustainable building methods that are best implemented in newer construction homes and renovations.

Members of the Greater Fairfield Board of Realtors will nominate homes for consideration in the contest, and the public can also nominate properties via the form at www.prideinourhomes.com.

Deadline for nominations is May 15; winners will be announced June 10.
