Fairfield recovery scenes: Assessing damage, planning repairs
Water dumped by Hurricane Sandy in Fairfield's beach area had receded by late last week, but there were still pockets of water collected at points around the shoreline neighborhood.
On Saturday, Fairfield Beach Road west was opened to residents and their contractors with proof of residency.
Initial assessments shows 677 homes affected by the storm, with nearly 30 already condemned because of the heavy damage suffered.
There remains a heavy deployment of police, supplemented by National Guard troops, to deter crime.
