Fairfield teens return to the stage this summer with three shows

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield Teen Theatre is returning this summer to celebrate its 45th anniversary with three productions.

Three casts of teenagers and pre-teens have been rehearsing at Fairfield Woods Middle School and Fairfield Ludlowe High School for the past few weeks with the first show, “Curtains young@part,” set to premiere this weekend.

The theater program is offered through the town’s parks and recreation department. Teenagers manage, construct, light and perform in the shows, holding roles onstage, backstage or in the orchestra pit. There are more than 60 teens this year with seven professionals, as well as college and graduate students to help guide them. The Magic Box and Main Stage casts are made up of students 13 to 20 years old.

Magic Box’s show “Curtains young@part” is set in 1959 during the opening night of a new musical at Boston’s Colonial Theatre. Performances will be at 8p.m. July 16 and 17 and 2 p.m. July 18 at Fairfield Woods Middle School.

“Peter Pan Jr.” will be performed by the PreTeen Players, which is for students who are 9 to 13 years old, at 7 p.m. on July 23 and 2 p.m. on July 24 at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. It is based on J.M. Barrie’s classic tale.

Main Stage’s show “School of Rock the musical” is based on the film. Performances will be at 8 p.m. on July 30, July 31, Aug. 6 and Aug. 7 and at 2 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 8 at Fairfield Woods Middle School.

Each program will follow all COVID-19 guidelines.
