Today promises to mostly sunny, but the threat of heavy snow is in the air for southwestern Connecticut this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Beforehand, though, daytime highs should be in the mid-30s, with a west wind between 11 and 17 mph.

Tonight there is a slight chance of light snow, but the mostly cloudy skies will gradually become mostly clear. Overnight, the low temperature is expected to be about 26, the NWS predicts.

Friday should be sunny again, with a high in the mid-30s. There will be a northwest wind between 9 and 14 mph. The nighttime low should be about 27.

Saturday starts out mostly sunny, but things could get a lot more "interesting" later in the day, the weather service warns.

Though there remains a lot of unpredictably in the forecast, the NWS says in a "hazardous outlook" issued for Saturday night that a low-pressure system moving over the Northeast "could bring steady snowfall from late Saturday through Monday ..."

Stay tuned.
