Fairfielder to receive honor at Fairfield U. awards dinner
A longtime Fairfield resident and veteran administrator at Fairfield University will be one of the honorees at the university’s 28th annual awards dinner in March.
George E. Diffley, who was vice president of Fairfield University’s Advancement Division for 30 years until his retirement in 2006, will receive the school’s Honorary Alumnus Award.
The Fairfield Awards Dinner, set for March 31 at the Grand Hyatt New York in New York City, benefits the university’s scholarship funds.
The event has raised a total of more than $15 million for endowed scholarship funds since it was established in 1989.
Diffley was appointed to lead the school’s Advancement Division in 1975 and led the university through its first two capital campaigns.
A recipient of the Rev. Barry M. McGannon, S.J., Award from the Jesuit Advancement Administrators, Diffley currently is a special assistant to the Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J., the university president.
