Classes for diabetes patients taught by three Fairfield residents at Norwalk Hospital have again won recognition by the American Diabetes Association.

The certified instructors in the hospital's Self-Management Education Program -- all from Fairfield -- are Barbara Nadolny, Pam Howard and Nancy Held. Nadolny is the program coordinator.

Recognition by the diabetes association carries a four-year certification and confirms that the hospital has a staff of health professionals who provide information about diabetes management, hospital officials said in a news release.

Diabetes-education programs apply for recognition voluntarily.

"The process gives professionals a national standard by which to measure the quality of services they provide," Nadolny said in the news release.
