A Fairfield couple was recently honored by the Northeast Organic Farming Association's Organic Land Care Program for their dedication to organic principles.

Michael Nadeau, president of Plantscapes Inc. in Fairfield, and Daniel Nadeau, principal and operations manager, were recognized for spending the last decade as accredited organic land care professionals.

To become accredited, land care professionals must attend the association's accreditation course, an intensive 30-hour course on ecological principles of land management and then pass the accreditation exam. Accredited professionals pledge to provide organic land care services according to the association's standards in organic land care, which replaces chemical management with practices such as using compost and planting native species to restore the ecological balance of designed landscapes.

Michael Nadeau has also served on the program's governing body and has taught both advanced workshops and parts of the accreditation course.
