FAIRFIELD — A man who tried to cash a fraudulent check at Citibank, 1275 Post Road, Wednesday afternoon, is facing charges.
Christopher Jones, 23, allegedly went into the bank with a fraudulent check in the amount of $960. Just 30 minutes before Jones came into the bank, another man tried to cash a fraudulent check for the same amount and from the same bank account.
According to police, Jones said he was walking to the bank and found the check on the sidewalk. He later allegedly admitted to getting the check from a third party but said he didn’t know the man’s name.
Jones, who lives on Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, was charged with second-degree forgery and criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny. He was released on a promise to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on June 14.
