The Fairfield Fire Department deployed its special operations trailer to Harbor Road this morning to provide emergency assistance to a man who reportedly succumbed to fumes while working on a septic system.

Upon arrival at 297 Harbor Road in Southport at approximately 9:30 a.m., firefighters located an unconscious male on the ground. He was being tended to by a co-worker. The men were equipped with a rope-rigging and ventilation system used to gain entry into confined spaces, like septic systems.

Firefighters treated the victim while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance, which transported the man to St. Vincent's Medical Center.
