Florida kidnap suspect nabbed in Fairfield
A traffic stop for a missing license plate led to the arrest Monday of Willie Edwards, 43, as a fugitive from justice out of Jacksonville, Fla.
When police ran a computer check on Edwards' background during the traffic stop on Kings Highway East, they discovered the active and extraditable warrant.
The original charges against Edwards, who has been living on Bunnell Street in Bridgeport, were for kidnapping and felony domestic battery.
He was stopped around 6:45 p.m. Monday on Kings Highway East by a Fairfield officer because his Ford Taurus was missing its front license plate.
Bond for Edwards was set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to appear April 5 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
