Free or low-cost mammograms will be available in Fairfield on Saturday, Sept. 24, when St. Vincent Medical Center's mobile mammography unit visits St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

Digital imaging will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the unit, which will be at the 1719 Post Road church. The American Cancer Society recommends all women have a mammogram by age 40, and then every year thereafter, St. Vincent's said in a news release.

Mammograms are free for those who do not have health insurance, have financial limitations and qualify for assistance. For those who do not have insurance but do not qualify for free services, mammograms are discounted, St. Vincent's said.

Appointments are necessary, and a physician order and insurance card must be brought to the appointment. To schedule an appointment, call St. Vincent's Women's Imaging Center at 203-576-5500.

Offices, community center, schools and churches may schedule mobile-unit screenings by calling 203-576-5505.
