A gala that was the very definition of style set the tone Friday night for a weekend design showcase at the 20th annual "Rooms with a View," hosted by Southport Congregational Church.

The event kicked off a weekend of activities including vignettes of various interior designs, a marketplace with more than 30 vendors, a cafe, a holiday fashion show, luncheon, and champagne tour and dinner with celebrity designer Thom Filicia.

The gala itself offered patrons cocktails, hors d'oeuvres donated by nine local restaurants, and live and silent auctions.

The vignettes -- customized design spaces -- were a highlight. These were facilitated by 12 different interior designers or groups, including Fairfield-based Christian Arkay-Leliever and Forehand + Lake, and Parker & Co. of Southport.

Filicia, an interior designer who was featured on the television program, "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," kicked off the live auction with the Rev. Laura Whitmore, the church's associate minister and auction chairwoman.

This year's show was the 20th, and the theme is a tribute to the late Albert Hadley, the American design giant who came up with the idea for "Rooms with a View." Each participating designer was asked to reinterpret one of Hadley's rooms.

The remaining show hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission tickets are $20.
