Grammy winner bringing Apalachian holiday to Quick Center
Grammy Award-winning violinist Mark O'Connor leads a six-member ensemble performing holiday standards with an Apalachian flavor on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7, at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts.
"Mark O'Connor and Friends: An Appalachian Christmas" is planned at 3 p.m. and will feature fellow musicians playing guitar, fiddle, bass and mandolin, the university said.
Tickets are $55, $45 and $40s and are available through the Quick Center Box office.
The program will feature music from O'Connor's latest album, "An Appalachian Christmas," which includes "Sleigh Ride," "Away in a Manger," "Carol of the Bells," and other hoiliday standards.
O'Connor's roots are as both a classical violinist and folk-music fiddler.
Sharing the Fairfield stage with him will be Joe Smart (guitar), Michael Rinne (bass) and vocalists Carrie Rodriguez (fiddle, tenor guitar), Cia Cherryholmes Adkisson (banjo) and O'Connor's son Forrest O'Connor (mandolin).
