GREENWICH — Superintendent Toni Jones has appointed Shamain Johnson as the chief human resources officer for the Greenwich Public Schools district, effective July 1.

Johnson has been serving as the interim human resources director. As the permanent chief officer, she will manage staff, employee and labor relations; oversee the recruitment and retention of employees; and take on other responsibilities, Jones said Wednesday.

“We are thrilled that Shamain will be our next chief human resources officer,” Jones said in a statement. “During her time serving in this position as an interim, she has provided great leadership within our human resources department and has worked in partnership with our staff and respective unions to serve the needs of our entire district. She continues to be an asset for our leadership team.”

She replaced Robert Stacy, who left in August 2019 to take on the same role for the Stamford Public Schools after four years in Greenwich.

Johnson said she is excited to take on this role permanently.

“The employees of our District are our greatest assets and I look forward to continuing my work in service to them,” she said in a statement.

Johnson has worked for the district since 2014. She has also worked in the schools as an assistant principal.

Before joining the Greenwich school district in 2014, Johnson served as an assistant principal and Early Learning Services Coordinator for Stratford Public Schools. She has held numerous other roles in special education and reading and math instruction within several Connecticut school districts, including Bridgeport and Stamford.

She holds a bachelor of science degree in special education, a master’s degree in learning disabilities and a sixth-year professional diploma in educational leadership, all of which were earned at Southern Connecticut State University.

This is the second administrative appointment announced this week for the Greenwich Public Schools. On Monday, Superintendent Toni Jones appointed Dave Nanarello as permanent food services director.

Nanarello has been serving the district as interim food services director, leading operations and food service offerings for all Greenwich Public Schools.
