Group for first-time moms forming

A discussion group for first-time mothers will meet on Thursday mornings at the Recreation Department offices on Mill Plain Road beginning April 24.

The sessions are planned from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and will be led by a social worker and a psychologist, the department said. The six-week program is scheduled through May 29, and costs $50.

Discussion will be geared to first-time mothers with infants in the pre-crawler stage and will cover sleeping, eating, creating a comfortable schedule, understanding a baby's temperament and developmental milestones.

The department said the program is an opportunity for new mothers to meet and discuss first-time parenting issues.

Facilitators will be Debbie Portnay, a licensed clinical social workers, and Jennifer Weinstein, a school psychologist, the department said.
