A music ensemble with a former Fairfield resident won a Grammy at this year's recent awards show.

Lisa Kaplan, the group's pianist, grew up in Fairfield and attended Fairfield public schools through high school, according to a news release from Kaplan's family. She studied piano with Burton Hatheway, also a longtime Fairfield resident, the release states.

Eighth Blackbird, a six-member ensemble, garnered the trophy in the "best small ensemble performance" category for its newest CD "Lonely Hotel: Music from Slide," according to the Grammys' official website. The group won its first Grammy in 2008, according to the release from the family.

The group, based in Chicago, consists of Kaplan on piano; Tim Munro on flutes; Michael J. Maccaferri on clarinets; Yvonne Lam on violin and viola, Nicholas Photinos on cello and Matthew Duvall on percussion, according to the group's website.
