Helen C. Hegedus, 96, of Fairfield, wife of the late Alfred Hegedus, died June 16, 2010, in her home.

The daughter of the late John and Lena Pentek Magyar, she was born and raised in Bridgeport, and later became a resident of Fairfield, where she lived for more than 60 years.

She enjoyed caring for her family, and took great pride in maintaining her home. In addition to being a wife, mother, friend, grandmother, daughter and great-grandmother, Hegedus will be remembered for her great cooking and baking of Hungarian food for friends and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Gooch of Shelton; a son, Alfred Hegedus and his wife, Kathleen of Milford; and her five grandchildren, Steven Hegedus and his wife, Mary of Tennessee, Robert Hegedus and his wife, Christine of New Jersey, Christine Hegedus of Plainfield, Ronald Sego and his wife Linda of Shelton, and Christopher Sego of Shelton. She is also survived by her sister in-law, Pearl Magyar of Colorado; and three great-grandchildren, Steven Hegedus Jr., Krystina Atkins and Alexander Sego.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Louis, John and Alexander Magyar; and her sister, Louise Kalmancy.

Her funeral will take place Monday, June 21, at 11 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield; burial will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit the family one hour before the service, from 10 to 11 a.m.
