Fairfield's first-ever Hyundai dealership is slated to open by November in a building formerly occupied by Devan Infiniti on the Post Road.

The new Hyundai of Fairfield location is being franchised to D&D Auto LLC, a partnership of multiple brand regional dealerships, including Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, Volkswagen and Hyundai, according Angel Commercial LLC of Fairfield, which represented Hyundai of Fairfield in the negotiation.

"As the brand becomes accepted by more people, we see Fairfield as a huge opportunity for us, especially for the Genus and Equus, which are well-suited for the Fairfield market," Peter DiPersia, Hyundai's general manager for the eastern region, said in a statement.

The Hyundai dealership will occupy the 16,000-square-foot retail space at 2243-2269 Post Road through a sublease for five years at $50,000 a month with a company called 2243 Post Road LLC, which is renting the space from the building's owner, Post Road Investors. Devan Infiniti vacated the space in April at the end of a five-year sublease with 2243 Post Road LLC to move into a commercial space on Commerce Drive once occupied by Mercedes-Benz of Fairfield.

David Cartwright, who owns Central Ford Mercury Mazda Hyundai, formed D&D Auto with a silent partner to launch the new Hyundai dealership, said Jon Angel, owner of Angel Commercial. Cartwright and his partner individually own several dealerships throughout Connecticut and the region, Angel said.

"This will be the first and only Hyundai dealership in Fairfield," Angel said.

The Hyundai dealership, built in 1988 on 1.84 acres and renovated in 2001 to have 10 drive-in doors and 15-foot ceilings, will be run by Cartwright, a Fairfield native.
