FAIRFIELD — For the 30th year in a row the Bigelow Tea Community Challenge, held Sunday morning at Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in Southport, gave runners a chance to stretch their legs for charity.

“I never imagined that when I started this 30 years ago, that this is where we’d be today,” said Cindy Bigelow, president and CEO.

She said around 600 runners took part in the 5K run, along with 200 walkers that did a two-mile fitness walk, and around 75 kids who participated in a fun run.

Last year the Challenge raised $150,000 for charity.

“It’s a magical community event that I’m so proud to be a part of,” Bigelow said.
