FAIRFIELD — Safety was first, but fun a close second when the Fairfield P.A.L. co-hosted a Youth Bicycle Safety Rodeo Saturday morning at Jennings Beach.

“It’s about keeping kids safe,” explained Officer Scott Sudora, “teaching them bike safety rules of the road, and making sure they have a helmet that fits.”

Other groups and businesses took part, including the Fairfield Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, New Canaan Police Department, Kohl’s, Zane’s bike store, which offered free repairs, and Yale-New Haven Hospital, which donated free helmets.

Officers led kids on obstacles courses and taught safety techniques.

“We’re trying to prevent accidents and make the kids knowledgeable,” Sudora said.
