FAIRFIELD — Stratfield Elementary School held their 10th annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation head-shaving event at the school on March 14.

According to emcee Darren Molony, a fifth-grade teacher at the school, this year more than 130 participants raised over $62,000 for pediatric cancer research.

The event opened with a welcome on bagpipes from Art Beagan, followed by impassioned speeches by two Stratfield families who have experienced loss from pediatric cancer. Jodi DeLach spoke of her brother, who died as a teenager, and Melanie Carvallo spoke of her son Adam, who died when a Stratfield second-grader, five years ago.

The children and participating adults took their spots on the stage by grade level, with the younger students going first. Stylists from locals salons were stationed by their chairs, shavers at the ready.
