Summer doesn't arrive officially until next month, but Fairfield's beach season launches this weekend.

As is traditional on the Memorial Day weekend, the town's five beaches on Long Island Sound and Lake Mohegan will be staffed by lifeguards beginning Saturday. They will be on duty on weekends only through June 13, and are scheduled to be there daily as of June 19.

That also means that beach stickers for the season will be required for those planning to visit Jennings, Penfield, Sasco, Southport and South Pine Creek beaches, as well as Lake Mohegan. The sticker costs $20 for town residents or those paying property taxes in Fairfield. Daily parking is also available for those without parking stickers at Jennings and Penfield, $15 on weekdays and $25 weekends and holidays.

Lots more information about Fairfield's beaches and a link to order beach stickers online is available on the Parks and Recreation website, www.fairfieldrecreation.com/Beach Stickers.html.

The town's Health Department will also be posting online updates on beach water quality and closings throughout the season at http://fairfieldbeachupdates.blogspot.com.
