A 20-year-old Fairfield man was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport after he was found on the ground near the 12th hole at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course just before 10 a.m. Sunday.

The man was discovered by a golfer, who saw a black SUV in the wooded area near the course and decided to take a closer look. The man told police he crashed his car about 2 a.m. Sunday and had been on the ground since then. He said he was experimenting with some prescription drugs, and couldn't recall what happened after that or how he got there.

According to police, the man was driving east on Golf View Terrace when he ran off the road and into the woods, ending up on the golf course.

The incident remains under investigation.
