A Bridgeport man faces several criminal charges after he was found inside Unquowa School, Stratfield Road, on Friday morning.
Jeffrey T. Amante, 51, of Shell Street, was in a second-floor classroom and bathroom even though he had no business to be in the building, police said.
Amante took a $200 calculator from the school, and also matched the description of a man believed to have stolen a $2,200 violin from the school on Aug. 3. At the time, the suspect had been spotted by a maintenance employee riding a pink bicycle on the school's property.
Police said Amante struggled briefly with a maintenance man who detained him until officers arrived, police said.
Amante was charged with second-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal trespass. He was released on a promise to appear Aug. 15 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
