James M. Parry, 55, of Fairfield, a retired Fairfield Fire Department lieutenant and the father of Pvt. Matthew James Parry and Jeffrey William Parry, died Aug. 2, 2010.

Born in Bridgeport, Parry was a graduate of Fairfield College Preparatory School, Class of 1973; Southern Connecticut State College, Class of 1978, and earned his master's degree in fire science from the University of New Haven.

He worked as a water boy for the New York Giants when he was 8 years old and had a lifelong passion for the Giants and the New York Yankees. He was also involved in varsity football at both Fairfield Prep and Southern Connecticut.

Parry joined the Fairfield Fire Department in 1980, and spent over 23 years on the force, rising to the rank of lieutenant.

He also coached football at New Canaan, Roger Ludlowe and Joel Barlow high schools from 1978-1988; coached basketball at Wakeman's Boys & Girls Club, and coached baseball in the Fairfield Little League and Fairfield Junior Babe Ruth programs.

In addition to his sons, Parry is survived by his parents, Raymond W. and Ann Parry of Fairfield; his brothers and their spouses, Kevin and Calle Parry of Brattleboro, Vt., and Timothy and Ursula Parry of Bridgeport; two sisters and their spouses, Deborah and Steve Liptak of Fort Worth, Texas, and Maura and John Cain of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; his aunt, Helen Stochmal of Bridgeport; two best friends, Tom Grega and Richard Orsini, both of Fairfield; and his eight nieces and nephews, Melissa, Adriane, Audrey, Jonathan, Julia, Anna, Eve and Cassie.

A wake will take place Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road. A Mass of Christian Burial is set for 10 a.m. Friday in St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
