James J. Archambault Jr., 70, of New York City, died May 6 in New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Born in Fairfield, he graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1958, attended Morris Harvey College in West Virginia, and joined the U.S. Marines Corps for a four years. He returned to Fairfield, where he began working with Hallmark Cards. He later moved to New York City, where he worked as the advertising director for magazines, including GQ, Playboy, Cigar Aficionado, Wine Spectator and the Robb Report.

Survivors include his partner, Maryellen Smith; his former wife and friend, Maggie Archambault; two sisters, Gail Whyte and her husband Joe, of Bridgeport, and Susan Archambault, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; two nephews, Michael and T.J. Whyte.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Shaughnessey-Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club of Southport, P.O. Box 118, Southport, CT 06890.
