Jennings Elementary School PTA has received a grant from Minneapolis-based retailer Target Corp. to support two educational programs at the school.

On Jan. 19, 2012, the school will host "Martin Luther King: Amazing Grace," a performance by storyteller, actor and poet Rochel Garner Coleman enacting key players of the civil-rights movement.

Four months later, photographer Thomas Mezzanotte will provide a three-day program from May 7 to 9 for fifth-graders that will explore the camera's historical background and its importance in documenting the Civil War. The program will conclude with students creating and shooting with pinhole cameras and then developing those photographs.

Since 1946, Target has given 5 percent of its income through community grants and programs; today, that giving equals more than $3 million a week.
