John R. Pusateri, 87, of Bridgeport and a former Fairfield resident, the husband of Elizabeth Doyle Pusateri, died June 9 in Connecticut Hospice, Branford.

Born and raised in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late Anthony and Providencza (Pauline) Zuccaro Pusateri. He worked for his family's produce distribution business until serving in World War II with the U.S. Army's 739th Medium Tank Battalion during the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns, receiving citations that included the Victory and Good Conduct medals.

He was married in 1950 and his family moved to Fairfield in 1956. He had a 55-year career operating Fairfield Painters. He had been a member of St. Pius X Church since its inception, and also was a member of VFW Post 9427 and American Legion Post 74. He also was a fan of car and horse racing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his children, John Pusateri and his wife, Clare, of Beacon Falls, Daniel Pusateri and his fiancee, Mary Elizabeth Bakunin of Stamford, Susan Pusateri of Milford, Patricia Mangone and her husband, Mark, of Lakeland, Tenn., and Pauline Lesko and her husband, Kevin, of Fairfield; his grandchildren, Leslie Ciruna and her husband, Brian, of Toronto, Canada, Stephanie Knapp and her husband, Toby, of Darby, Mont., Kevin Pusateri and his companion, Maria Schleicher, of Hampton, Va., Michael Mangone, and Madeline, Kyle and Sophia Lesko; great-grandchildren, Effie Knapp and Allison Ciruna; his wife's siblings, Arlene Curatolo of Collingswood, N.J., Joan Ann Hrobuchak, of Taylor, Pa., James Doyle and his wife, Judy, of Olyphant, Pa., Walter Doyle of Scranton, Pa., Carol Micciche and her husband, Stephen, of Ocean View, Del., Douglas Doyle and his wife, Connie, of Scranton, Paul Doyle and his wife, Patty, of Moscow, Pa.; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Samuel, Joseph and Anthony Pusateri, Mary Luciani and Lucy Altieri.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 13, in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive. Private burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
