Junior League's art show this weekend at Burr Mansion
The works of more than 100 local and regional artists will be for sale at the Burr Homestead this weekend in the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County's annual art show.
The show in the historic mansion runs Friday, March 30, through Sunday, April 1. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
In addition to art, the 20th anniversary show will include a boutique offering jewelry, women's fashions and accessories, home goods and fragrances.
The Burr Homestead also will be the backdrop for interior design displays by six designers.
The scope of art for sale represents both traditional paintings and contemporary abstract works, as well as photographs, prints, drawings and sculpture.
Tickets are $7 at the door or $5 in advance; seniors, $5; children under 12, free.
"A Great Gatsby Preview Gala" and silent auction are planned for March 30, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Burr Homestead. Tickets are $100 and include dinner, live band and open bar.
Proceeds from the weekend events benefit the Junior League's community projects.
Artists whose work is returning to the show include abstract painter Claudia Mengel; children's book illustrator Stephanie Peterson; New England landscapist Anda Styler; and scanner photographer Ellen Hovercamp.
Artists new to the show are Ann Mallory, whose ceramic sculpture was awarded best in show at the 2011 Westport Fine Arts Festival; Jay Misencik, whose photographs of Bridgeport's Palace and Majestic theaters were featured in a recent exhibit at the Fairfield Museum and History Center; and Ken Scaglia, awarded best in show at the 2011 Friends of Hall-Brooke Art Show for his realist paintings of classic cars.
Interior designers whose work will be displayed are Connie Cooper Designs, Victoria Ross Florals & Events, Christopher Stevens LLC, Tusk Home and Design LLC, Robin's Nest Design LLC and the Pious Bird of Good Omen.
Three portrait artists will create personal pieces for patrons. Beverly Branch will paint half-hour acrylic sketches; Joan Elizabeth Goodman will do half-hour colored pencil sketches, and Carol Lebeaux will do silhouette portraits.
